Fender Telecaster.About a 95 model, and about as stock as they come. It has a James Burton signature on it, but I don't know what that means in practical terms. I got it cheap because someone put a dirty great chip on it in the store. And, yes, that is a genuine doovalacky on it! The doovalacky in question is a Hipshot stringbender device. I got it originally because I love Jimmy Page's stringbender work on the two Firm albums. The Hipshot lets you bend the G string with a palm lever, and the B string with a hip lever. It also has a drop D key. It installs with no real modification to the instrument, unlike a Parsons-White stringbender. It's great! Having got it, I discovered that you can do all sorts of Eastern bends on it. It's the Tele you hear on the solos on TRB. Listen To TRB solo. You can also use it to bend notes in chords in rhythm parts, as on Palisades. Doing so has a weird effect- the ear hears it as two separate guitars, 'cos one guitar can't sound like that... Fender Stratocaster.Jeff Beck model. It has a roller bearing nut and locking machine heads. It also has Lace Sensor pickups. The Lace Sensors are definitely a different sound from standard Strat pickups, there are certain sounds I can't get, however they have an appealing sound of their own. Examples: the main guitars in Cathedral, Listen To Cathedral.the solos on Summer,Listen To Summer solo. the middle section of Tenebrous. Lace Sensors seem to crap out if they are raised too close to the strings, which caused me some problems. One thing for sure is that they are very quiet, way less noisy than the Tele pickups, which can be a nightmare. Aria Pro II.One of those '80s pointy headstock guitars. I brought this guitar a long time ago, before the Strat, and I learned to get some good sounds out of it, though it's not my preferred instrument. As a result it features quite a bit on the recording. Examples: the reverby guitars just before the bridge on Summer, the main guitar on Electric Ambience ( recorded direct), the intro guitars on Palisades, and the slide lead on Palisades,Listen To Palisades slide. as well as lots of other spots. It has a Kahler tremolo, which is a bit of a problem, because the claws which hold the ball end of the strings at the bridge keep breaking, and they're becoming scarce. Actually the tremolo arm itself snapped not long after I brought it, and I had to get a non-Kahler replacement. Not Pictured:A Fender Strat with normal pickups that I hired for part of the recording. I'm not sure if it made much of the final mix or not. Behringer FCB 1010 foot controller board. This is not a multi-effector, it is purely a controller board, sending MIDI signals. It is also capable of relay switching, although I don't use it for that. It's a great unit, way ahead of the piece of crap that I had before it, which shall remain nameless, but cost twice as much, was half the size, could do half as much and kept throwing tantrums if the power wasn't quite right. The Behringer can send signals on separate channels to all my rack units, so that instead of having to work with patch tables in the units I can just deal with everything in the Behringer. Brilliant!
