This is our policy document outlining our policy on direct licensing of our Phonographic Performance rights in our sound recordings. Thanks to the ACCC, we are required to have such a policy in order to stay licensed with the PPCA ( Phonographic Performance Company of Australia). Normally to licence these rights you would just go to the PPCA and get a licence that would cover you for just about everybody's sound recordings. This is the most obvious and convenient way, but in the name of competition the ACCC has seen fit to require us to have at least a policy on licensing direct ( ie. you approach us direct and we negotiate a licensing arrangement). As far as we can see, this would mostly just be a fiddly pain in the arse for everyone. The only reasons we can see why you would want to do this would be: a. If you want to pay us less money. b. If you ONLY want to play our music, and nothing else. c. If you have some really special purpose for our music, eg. you developed your entire revolutionary aerobics regime to it. So, for the record, here is our policy on direct licensing. A. We ARE open to the idea of direct licensing, mostly if you promise to pay us lots of money. Exactly how much we'd want would depend on such factors as; how strapped for cash we are, how rich you seem, whether you are chiefly a manufacturer of napalm or garden furniture, and whether we like your shirt. We don't have any firm policy on this stuff. We'll work it out as we go along. B. We'd probably also license to you for free if you seem really nice or worthy. Can't really be more informative than this. Again, your shirt may be a factor. C. Keep in mind that licensing to you would probably be an administrative nightmare from our point of view. We'd probably be after a one-off payment for a fixed period. We haven't developed any forms or payment schedules or anything like that. D. If you really want to go through with this, don't bother emailing us. Any address for us may well have been rendered useless by spamsters. Instead, send snail mail to us at: PO Box 292, Glen Iris 3146, Australia. We will probably respond to you in a completely unreasonable time frame. Don't hold your breath. OR, you could find us on MySpace and contact us like that (myspace.com/pangolinband). Not that classy, we know, but it'd work. E. OR, you could just license from the PPCA, and save yourself all this trouble, and still get the use of our tracks. That's what we would do, if we were you, and we were us, knowing how unlikely we are to be able to handle all this stuff. F. If you're a band, like us, that owns their own tracks and doesn't have a record company, you can copy our policy if you like. You can even embellish on it. It's your funeral. Obviously, this document was not drawn up by a lawyer. You can pay us back by putting in a MySpace friend request www.myspace.com/pangolinband.
